Dedication to Long Island's Hofstra University:
Prior to his NBA career, Claxton played at Hofstra University. Claxton led the Flying Dutchmen to the America East Championship, where they defeated the University of Delaware in the championship game at Hofstra Arena.
Claxton donated money to help build the 5,000-seat arena in which the Hofstra team plays, and his number 10 was retired by Hofstra on January 31, 2009. Claxton was inducted into the Hofstra Hall of Fame on January 29, 2011.
Claxton has had a successful NBA career before returning to his alma mater, Hofstra University, to dedicate his time to the men's basketball team as the head coach.

Kimani's coaching career began in 2006 as the athletic director at New Heights Youth, a non-profit organization which provides resources to underprivileged youth in the New York City area. In between two stints with the organization, he served as a team manager with St. John's University Red Storm men's basketball team during the 2008-2009 season
Fast forward, in 2018, Young was hired as an assistant head coach at UConn as part of a new staff with the team. His performance with the team put him on “The Athlete’s list” of 25 up-and-coming college basketball coaches. In 2020, he was promoted to the associate head coach of the team. While at UConn, he played a key role in UConn's back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024, recruiting and developing key players Jordan Hawkins, Tristen Newton, and. Stephon Castle.
Kimani has been on the ABIS Coaches' Watchlist for the past 3 consecutive years.
